# AI Upscale - How to use
## How to print small, low-DPI artwork sharply with AI Upscale
### What is AI Upscale?
When your artwork is smaller than the size it will be printed at, a standard resize stretches the image and the print can look blurry or pixelated. AI Upscale enlarges your artwork with AI before printing, so it stays sharp at the printed size. It works with all resize options.
### When should you use AI Upscale?
Use AI Upscale when your artwork is too small or too low resolution for the size you want to print. In the Designer, the DPI indicator above the artboard turns red. Dreamship recommends 300 DPI.
This often happens when you resize small artwork to cover more of the print area, for example with Fill or Fit. AI Upscale works with all resize options.
### How much does AI Upscale cost?
AI Upscale costs $0.20 per artwork, charged once. Later orders that reuse the same upscaled artwork are not charged again.
The fee is charged whenever AI Upscale is turned on, even if your artwork is already high resolution. If your artwork already prints sharply at the size you need, you can leave AI Upscale off.
The fee appears on the order invoice as AI Upscale Fee.
### How to turn on AI Upscale?

There are 3 ways to turn on AI Upscale, depending on how you create your orders.
#### Product created in the Designer
Use this for products you create first and then order or sell, for example products you publish to your store. Every order that uses this product has AI Upscale turned on automatically.
Step 1: On the Dreamship dashboard, open the Designer and add a product.
Step 2: Upload your artwork to the print area.
Step 3: Click Resize and choose the resize option you want.
Step 4: Click AI Upscale at the top of the artboard, next to the DPI indicator.
Step 5: Read the confirmation and click Turn on AI upscale. The AI Upscale button is now highlighted.
Step 6: Click Create to save the product.
When you add this product to an order, the line item shows an AI Upscale badge.
*Note: The artwork in the Designer does not change when you turn on AI Upscale. The upscale is applied after the order is paid.*
#### Order created on Dreamship app
Use this when you create an order manually with new artwork.
Step 1: On the Dreamship dashboard, go to Orders \>\> All Orders.
Step 2: Click the "Create Order" button in the top right corner.
Step 3: Click Add Line Items, open the New Product tab, choose your product and variant, then click Add.
Step 4: Under Resize, choose the resize option you want.
Step 5: Upload your artwork to the print area.
Step 6: If the artwork is too small, an AI upscale ($0.20) checkbox appears next to the print area. Tick the box.
Step 7: Input the address and choose a shipping method.
Step 8: Click Submit Order in the top right corner.
#### Order submitted via CSV upload
Each print area in the order import template has its own AI Upscale column: ai\_upscale\_1 for print area 1, ai\_upscale\_2 for print area 2, and so on.
Step 1: Set resize\_1 (or resize\_2, resize\_3) to the resize option you want.
Step 2: Set the matching ai\_upscale column to TRUE for each print area you want upscaled.
Step 3: Upload the file in Orders \>\> Order Import.
### How to view the upscaled print file?
You can see the upscaled file once the order is paid and accepted.
Step 1: Open the order and scroll to the line item.
Step 2: Click Files under the print area.
Step 3: Artwork is your original file. Print File Proof is the upscaled file that will be printed. Download both and zoom in to compare the detail.
### FAQs
**Will I be charged if my artwork is already high resolution?**
Yes, if AI Upscale is turned on. If your artwork is already high resolution, you can leave AI Upscale off.
**I order the same product again. Do I pay again?**
No. If the artwork was already upscaled, later orders reuse it at no extra cost.
**Why does my artwork look the same in the Designer after I turn on AI Upscale?**
The upscale runs after the order is paid. Check the Print File Proof on the order to see the result.
**Which resize options work with AI Upscale?**
AI Upscale works with all resize options.
