VAT Information - Adding VAT to Dreamship orders

When selling to countries in the EU and the UK, customers may be required to pay VAT (Value Added Tax) on their orders.
VAT applies to both the UK and EU member countries. For orders placed through e-commerce platforms, the platform usually collects VAT and provides a tax number for the order. In these cases, please make sure to add the VAT information to the order when creating it in the Dreamship app.
How to add VAT to Dreamship orders?
1. Create orders manually in the Dreamship app
After creating the order, scroll down to the Shipping section >choose Edit VAT > click on Save
Inside the VAT box, fill in the following information:
- VAT Number: Enter the VAT number for UK orders or the IOSS number for EU orders.
- VAT Currency: Use the correct currency based on the destination (e.g., GBP for UK, EUR for EU).
- Unit Price: Enter the VAT amount per unit in the order. If needed, divide the total VAT across the units.
After saving, the VAT for your order is added, and your customers won’t be charged tax twice.
2. Import orders using a CSV fileIn the CSV file, you'll find specific columns where you can enter VAT details for your orders.

Make sure to fill in the following columns:
- vat_number: Enter the VAT number for UK orders or the IOSS number for EU orders.
- vat_currency: Use the correct currency based on the destination (e.g., GBP for UK, EUR for EU).
- vat_unit_value: Enter the VAT amount per unit in the order (Note: This is the amount for a line item single unit. This number will be multiplied by the quantity)

After submitting the CSV file, these orders will include VAT as needed.
Note: In case you have a VOEC ID number/GST PAID, etc (Outside of VAT number and IOSS number), please add it to the Company name field inside the Address as below:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- What happens if I don’t include VAT information in my Dreamship order?
If VAT is not included, your customer may be charged VAT again upon delivery. This could result in unexpected fees on your customer side.
- Can I update VAT information after the order is placed?
Currently, VAT details should be added before the order is processed. Once the order is in production, the VAT fields can no longer be edited. In that case, contact the Support Team to request adding VAT manually on the order on dispatched.
- What if I sell through a marketplace that doesn’t provide a VAT/IOSS number?
If the platform doesn’t collect VAT or provide a tax number, the package may be subject to VAT or customs charges on delivery.
- Will VAT be printed on the shipping label?
Yes, the VAT/IOSS number and VAT amount are passed to the shipping carrier and appear on the shipping label to prevent charging taxes twice on delivery.
- Why do I still have to pay the Country Fee in Dreamship order?
The Country Fee is not the same as VAT. This fee applies to items produced in the UK or EU and helps cover additional costs for processing, handling, and delivering orders to certain countries. The fee varies by destination and is shown in your order invoice.
